Roger Frederick Yourgans Obituary
Newburgh - Roger Frederick Yourgans, 93, Newburgh, passed away peacefully Monday, February 23, 2026. He was the oldest son of Frederick and Wilma (Schmidt) Yourgans born July 25, 1932, in Evansville.
He was a sweet and dedicated husband for 68 years to his wife Lorraine T. (Moers) that he married on Oct. 5, 1957. Together they raised three children: two daughters: Sabra (Bill) Young of Evansville and Holly (Curt) Miller of Gibson City, Illinois. One son, Brett Yourgans, passed away in 2018. Also missing their grandpa will be 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Roger grew up in the Vanderburgh County area and spent great times with his younger brother David who preceded him to heaven in 2024.
He was a graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville, and served in the US Army Infantry in the occupational forces in Germany. He was employed by the US Post Office for several years as a clerk and letter sorter and could still remember all of the local zip codes. He moved up to be a postal inspector and spent time in the state of New York performing those tasks. Once returning back home, he returned working for the post office and started attending the University of Evansville in the evening to earn his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Evansville.
He moved his family to Washington where he would be closer to his job with the US Navy at the Navel Weapon Support Center in Crane. He worked for the government for a combined total of 41 years before retiring in 1994.
Roger was loved by all who met him as a friendly modest soul - very intelligent, reserved in nature and a good wit. He was an avid reader of history and his many books will be donated to libraries in small towns per his wishes. He enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, gardening, birds and most of all fishing. He will be dearly missed by all.
Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2026 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. A Funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Father Zach Etienne officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Road, Evansville, IN 47715.
