Plainville - Margaret Lou Berry, 97, Plainville, passed away March 27, 2026, surrounded by family.
Margaret was the oldest of four born to Edgar (Shom) and Irene Nowling January 5, 1929. Margaret graduated from Plainville High School, class of 1947. She married the love of her life John Joseph (Joe) Berry November 28, 1947, and together they were married 56 years and raised a garden, a farm, and four wonderful children.
During Margaret's life, she worked at Eggs Incorporated and Plainville Grocery Store. For over 20 years, she was a beloved contributor at the Bloomington Farmers' Market. A well-known cook and holiday hostess, Margaret's best dishes included her homemade noodles, red velvet cake, and persimmon pudding. Margaret was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering for the North Daviess Cougars,Indiana Hoosiers, and her beloved Chicago Cubs, once even enjoying a stick of gum with Mr. Wrigley himself. Margaret loved being a part of the Daviess County 4-H family and was also a devoted member of the Plainville Christian Church.
Above all, Margaret cherished her loving family. Survivors include doting sons Kenny, Wayne David (Mendy), and John (Jodi), and devoted daughter Nina Coffman. Grandchildren who treasured Grandma Berry include Jennifer Carr, Heather Meunier (Kyle), Heath Berry (Katie), Chance Berry (Stacey), Shom Berry (Cassie), and step-granddaughter Jennifer Wherley (Nick). Great-grandchildren Jordan Swan (Blake), Lincoln and Sawyer Meunier, Silas and Charlie Primus, and Grace and Jackson Wherley. Margaret is also survived by sisters-in-law Doris Kane and Sue Kohlman as well as several adoring nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Eddy Ray (Mary) and Billy Gene Nowling (Rita), sister Margie Sue Eaton (Bill), sisters-in-law Betty Finlay (Jack), Alma Catherine (Sis) Heim (Wayne), Ruth Shanks (Ray), Bertie Townsend (Haldon), brother-in-law Bob Berry (Edna), and son-in-law Lee Coffman.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Meng Family Funeral Home, 616 E. Elnora St, Odon, with Ashley Shurtz officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest in Plainville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, and from 9 to 11 a.m.,Thursday at the funeral home.
