Charles Elmer Taylor Sr. (Chuck) Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Elmer Taylor Sr. was reunited with his beloved wife, Margaret Nell Brady Taylor, on the morning of February 4, 2025. The couple joyfully celebrated their marriage on July 1, 1951.

Chuck was born December 6, 1924, in Benton, Illinois, to Mary E. Baclet Taylor and Marion Paul Taylor. He spent his formative years in Benton as the youngest of five siblings, including Mary Lou Boner, Paul Taylor Jr., Elizabeth Lowery, and Gladys Ruth Norman. Their family navigated the challenges of the Great Depression, often facing long periods of separation, which instilled resilience and strength in him.

In his youth, Chuck held various jobs, often balancing two or three positions while attending school. His dedication and sense of duty led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps in 1943. As a Private First Class, he earned the Bronze Star for his courageous actions on June 15-16, 1944, on Saipan in the Mariana Islands, during the South Pacific Theatre. His heroism exemplified the integrity and character that he carried with him throughout his life.

After the war, Chuck pursued higher education, graduating from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he earned a business degree. He thrived as an account executive for Shell, leveraging his expertise and contacts in the oil industry.

In 1967, he and Margaret, along with their two children, established C.E. Taylor Oil, Inc. in Washington, Indiana, laying the foundation for a prosperous family business.

Upon their retirement in the early 2000s, Chuck and Margaret moved to Naples, Florida, where they embraced life on the golf course at Royal Palm Golf Club. For Chuck, golf was less about the longest drive or best equipment, and more about the joy of chipping and putting, and the memories made with friends on the greens.

Chuck is survived by his two children: his daughter, Susan Mills, and her husband, Craig, who reside in Florida, and his son, Chuck Taylor Jr., and his wife, Jill. He reunites with his middle child, Frank Paul, who passed away as an infant due to health complications. He leaves behind a legacy of love, reflected in his grandchildren: Nick Mills and his wife, Laura; Taylor Mills; Layne Taylor and her children, Harper, Vance, and Lachlan; Chase Taylor and his wife, Serena, and their children, Evelyn Grace and Charles IV. Taylor Mills dedicated unwavering compassion and love during Chuck Sr.'s final years.

Chuck Sr. will be cherished and missed by his family: his two children, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His legacy of devotion to family, love for education, and appreciation for freedom will be carried on through them.

In honor of Chuck Sr.'s life, the family kindly requests that any charitable donations be made to the Daviess County Museum or to a charity of your choosing.
