Betty Kelley
Betty Ruth Kelley, 84, formerly of Washington, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, at Heritage Manor in El Paso, Illinois. She was born June 28, 1935, in Daviess County. Betty was the 15th of 17 children born to Dale and May (Raney) Allen.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Hoffman of White House, Tennessee, and Michele Nelson (Mike) of Normal, Illinois; five grandchildren, Mitch (Becky) Nelson of Bloomington, Illinois, Ethan Hoffman of Portland, Tennessee, Mason Nelson of Cornelius, North Carolina, Austin Hoffman of White House, Tennessee, and Emily Hoffman of White House, Tennessee. Also surviving are two sisters, Emma Harder (Wayne) of Washington and Joyce Martin (Eddie) of Washington.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 21 years, Chester Kelley; five brothers, Birtle Allen (Wilma), Freadman Allen (Elizabeth), Jeff Allen (Delores), Robert Allen (Annette), and Junior Allen (Barbara); six sisters, Leola Hornaday (Roger), Beatrice Schnarr (Lawrence), Wanda May Schnarr (Cecil), Della Shelton (Raymond), Mary Lottes (Elmer), Camilla Peterson; and nine nieces and nephews. One brother and one sister died in infancy.
She was an excellent housekeeper and cleaned homes and babysat for a few very special families through the years. Betty worked at Kimball Electronics in Jasper for 13 years before retiring in 1996. Anyone who knew her knew they could count on Betty to help them in any way she could. She was a devoted servant to her family and friends. She also made the very best homemade jelly. Betty loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren - they meant the world to her and she meant the world to them. She also enjoyed being with her sisters and playing card games, especially euchre.
A sincere thank you to the staff at Heritage Health for taking such loving care of Betty for the past five years.
Betty is leaving a wonderful legacy of loving and serving Jesus and others. The things of God were top priority to her and she passed that along to her daughters and grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed very much. She is now reunited with her husband she lived without on this earth for 36 years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, Washington, with Pastor Rodney Shelton officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Reeve Township. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home and one hour before the funeral.

I worked with Betty at Kimball Electronics. She was a hard worker and a friend to all. She was a very honest person. If something you said or did was wrong or immoral, she would tell you. She was also very frugal with her money and took pride in being able to support her family without any outside help. My condolences to the family.

Betty was my next door neighbor when I was growing up. She was a lovely lady that took great care of her family and her mother-in-law and sister-in-law too. She was a friendly and wonderful neighbor.
So sorry for your loss, Connie and Michelle. The last time I saw your mom was at my dad's funeral ten years ago. She was still such a beautiful woman and so friendly. Alfordsville has some very fine people and your mother was one if them.
God give you comfort.
