On Oct. 8, Ruth A. Sykes, formerly of Washington, went to join the Lord in heaven. She left behind a cancer ridden body for ever lasting peace, love, joy and happiness.
She never asked what needed to be done, but would instead jump in and serve. Ruth served in the U.S. Navy, where she met her true love, Robert J. Sykes. They were married for nearly 53 years on earth. Robert preceded her in death in November 2015. Now, they are joined together again.
Their love for each other resulted in the birth of two children. Their first child was a son, Ronald L. Sykes, who passed away shortly after birth. Ten years later, they had a daughter together, Carol L. Sykes-O'Donnell. Later in life, they also gained a son-in-law, Patric M. O'Donnell. Carol and Patric provided Ruth with her two greatest gifts, two grandchildren, Kala D. O'Donnell and Liam R. O'Donnell.
A spring memorial in Washington, is being planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer organization of your choice to help find cures.
