Paul's Story

Paul W. Chapman, 91, of Summerfield, Florida, formerly of Bloomington, passed away Thursday in Summerfield. He was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Washington, to Charles L. Chapman and Dorothy Wise Chapman. He attended Washington High School before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Petty Officer 1st Class as a boilermaker aboard the USS Scribner. Just recently he was recognized at a Tin Can Sailors Banquet honoring those that served aboard ships during the war. Paul was an entrepreneur at heart, owning various businesses throughout his life and was an award-winning territory manager with Lawson Products in Western Kentucky. He was a member of the American Legion Post 18 in Bloomington, was an avid Indiana University fan, loved Florida and his golfing, riding around in his golf cart in the Villages, and lived long enough to see his beloved Chicago Cubs win the World Series.
Paul leaves behind his daughters Cheryl Clymer and husband John of Washington, and Paula Powers of Vincennes; son Scott Chapman and wife Susie of Orlando, Florida; grandchildren Michele Wiscaver, Steve Brucken, Kelly Holloway and Jeff Smith; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Marion Chapman; sons Paul W. "Chappy" Chapman Jr., and Charles Anthony "Tony" Chapman; and wife Sharon K. Chapman on Dec. 1, 2015.
Funeral services for Paul will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Allen Funeral and Crematory, 4155 South Old SR 37, Blomington. Burial will follow in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m., also at Allen Funeral Home.
