Marc L. "Jumpin" Courtney, 59, of Odon, passed away Monday. He was born in Daviess County on May 10, 1957, to Marcia Kay (Smeltzer) and Earl L. Courtney Jr.
Marc was a member of the Elnora Christian Church, Crane VFW and the Elnora Sons of the American Legion. He was employed at Crane and had also worked in logging for Sam Bond, on the Alaskan pipeline with Kenny Asdell, and did some roofing jobs around Bloomington. Marc got the nickname "Jumpin" because he could jump so high when he played basketball. He loved being outdoors, gardening and cooking for the big roast dinners that they had. Marc enjoyed being involved in logging competitions and had won a Sworenson Certificate for tree felling.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula (Jerremy) Neibert; granddaughter Ella Neibert; grandsons Jackson and Luke Neibert, all of Morgantown; his father, Earl Courtney Jr. of Odon; one sister, Shelly (Larry) Beckman of Odon; several nieces and nephews.
Marc is preceded in death by his mother, Marcia Kay Courtney; sister Debbie Wilkin; and his grandparents.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon, with Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Marc will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Elnora.
Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Elnora Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
