Herman W. "Doodle" Kinser, 86, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at 12:43 p.m. at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.
He was born in Monroe County on Aug. 30, 1931, to Frank L. Kinser and Nellie (Wilson) Kinser. Herman married Bonnie Louise Rice and she survives.
Herman was retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane in 1974, where he was an ammunition inspector. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was wounded on Sept. 11, 1950, and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Bedford, life member of the Shoals American Legion Post 61, Shoals Eagles 2442, Bedford Masonic Lodge, life member of the DAV, and Washington VFW Post 3321. Herman loved to garden, fish, camp, play cards and travel. He visited all but three states.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Kinser of Washington; son Steve L. (Carol) Kinser of Bedford; daughter Debra Rollins of Bedford; stepson Marty Bechtel of Clayton; five grandchildren, Adam (Amy) Kinser, Amanda (Nick) Goodman, Kayla Rollins, James (Mandy) Davis, and Robert (Bethany) Davis; great-grandchildren Austin Davis, Alexis Davis, Abby Davis, Grant Goodman, Adalee Kinser; great-great-granddaughter Brynlie Davis; seven stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandchild.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene Kinser, Henry Kinser and Robert Kinser; one sister, Grace Letz; three stepdaughters, Lena Kay Pruett, Betty Ann Bechtel and Donna Mae Carpenter; grandson Brett Kinser; and son-in-law Greg Rollins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, with military services by the Shoals American Legion Post 61.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Masonic rites by the Bedford Masonic Lodge at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Robbie Davis, Jimmy Davis,
Adam Kinser, Austin Davis, Amanda Goodman, Kayla Rollins and Seth Bechtel.
