Carp (Caroldon L.) Abbott, 83, Lyons, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 16, 1933, to Bernard and Martha (Boyd) Abbott in their home in Glendale.
He was a longtime member of the Lyons Church of Christ, Linton Elks, Switz City Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriner. He owned and operated Abbott Farms and Trucking. He was easy to recognize with pliers in his overalls, while living out his passion of farming and trucking. He was well known and respected by many and will be missed as he leaves behind a life-long legacy.
He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Sharlene (Edwards) Abbot;, son Ron Beck; sister-in-law Martha Edwards; and brothers George and Lyndon Abbott.
He is survived by six children, Denny (Joann) Abbott of Lafayette, Randy (Nancy) Beck of Charleston, South Carolina, Karla Orender of Washington, Lori (Greg) Sargent of Sandborn, Tim (Melissa) Abbott of Lyons, Darla (Tom) Robison of Lyons; brothers Darrell (Stella) Abbott of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and Conrad Edwards of Lyons. He had a total of 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons. Interment will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in rural Lyons.
Public visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
