Betty's Story

Betty Jo Field Diltz, 93, of Farragut, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away early Sunday morning. Betty was a member of Farragut Christian Church and life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Before marriage she dreamed of being a nurse and became a medical assistant to Dr. H. B. Lindsay of Washington, Indiana. A career interrupted by World War II when she was a quality control statistician for the Reliance Parachute Manufacturing Company. She was her husband's better half, homeroom mother, Girl Scout assistant troop leader, Cub Scout den mother, and active volunteer.
She was a member of the Good Will Guild, Crossroads Rehabilitation Center, Welcome Wagon, and writer, editor, and mimeographer for the Greenbrier Neighborhood Association Newsletter. She was the emotional center that held the family together as they spread across the country.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James A. (Jim) Diltz; brother, J. Wilbur Field; and her parents, Jess Wilbur and Mildred White Field. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Emily Diltz and Rev. Thomas W. D. Baird of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John David Diltz and wife, Susan Malone of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandchildren, David Connor (Jackie) Diltz, Christine Diltz, Lindsay Baird, Luke Baird. Special thank you to the staff of Little Creek Sanitarium, especially Dr. Keilah Gonzalez Bonilla, Dr. Rebecca Jackson and nurse, Autumn, Dr. Stephen Marietta, her Home Instead caregivers, Chris and Tracie Palmer, and her Farragut Christian Church Family.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2p.m. on Saturday with a service to celebrate Betty's life to immediately follow at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Jason Warden officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Farragut Christian Church, 138 Admiral Road, Farragut, TN 37934.
