Walter E. MacDonald, 88, of Washington, passed away June 4, 2017, in Evansville. Walter was born July 21, 1928, in Queens, New York, to the late Harold G. and Caroline (Wright) MacDonald.
He graduated from South High School in Worcester, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief. Walter went on to earn his chemical engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1953. He was employed by Marathon Oil Company and retired in January 1991 after 32 years of service. He married Wanita (Winklepleck) MacDonald on April 3, 1985, in Findlay, Ohio. He was a member of the American Petroleum Institute, Society of Automotive Engineers, and the American Legion in Findlay, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife Wanita; three daughters, Carolyn (Bill) Duncan, Laurie (Tom) Biddle and Paula (Steve) Thomas; three sons, Steve MacDonald, Jeff McCain and Paul MacDonald; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold R. MacDonald; and two sisters, Shirley Metcalf and Marjorie MacDonald.
A memorial service will be conducted at noon Friday, June 23, 2017, at Gill Funeral Home. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Interment and Military Honors will follow at Sugarland Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be made at www.gillsince1872.com.
