Vivian L. (Howard) Opell, 94, of Washington, passed away Oct. 4, 2017. Born Oct. 29, 1922, in McDonald, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Ida (Beeson) Howard.
She was a 1940 graduate of McDonald Kansas High School and attended Fort Hayes Kansas State College. She married John A. Opell on Aug. 1, 1943, in Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1994.
Vivian retired as a bookkeeper for Coca Cola Bottling Company in Washington, after many years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Julie Opell; a son, Brent (Robin Andrews) Opell; a granddaughter, Katie V. VanHoy; a great-grandson, Jackson VanHoy; and a sister, Vida Gillispie.
She is also preceded in death by a sister, Verne Swanson, and three brothers, John, Charlie and Glenn Howard.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at Oak Grove Cemetery.
