Verda Wagler, 88, of Cannelburg, passed away at 7 p.m. Monday at Loogootee Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Daviess County, to the late Henry and Tillie (Wagler) Gingerich.
Verda was a member of Berea Mennonite Church. She enjoyed working on the farm, cross stitching and driving Amish to various places. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Verda always had a welcoming disposition. Her heart of gold fought to care for everyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Anson E. Wagler; son Calvin Wagler; parents Henry and Tillie (Wagler) Gingerich; siblings Viola (George) Lengacher, Mary Marie (Isaac) Stoll, Edith Gingerich, Sylvia Mae (Paul) Miller and Amos Jerome Gingerich; and brother-in-law Ben McDermed.
Verda is survived by her children, David (Connie) Wagler of Cannelburg, Mark (Denise) Wagler of Loogootee, Daniel (Rene) Wagler of Shoals, Dorothy (Dan) Cox, Jan (Don) Swartz and Rhoda (David) Swartz, all of Cannelburg; daughter-in-law, Joie Wagler of Washington; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; siblings Cletus (Fannie) Gingerich of Odon, Leah Lorine (Ben) Wagler of Sarasota, Florida, Henry Jr. (Martha) Gingerich of Woodburn, Indiana, and Rosanne McDermed of Washington; and sister-in-law, Esther Gingerich of Odon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Berea Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Berea Mennonite Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to I6Eight Mission. Verda's grandson, Dustan, will be traveling to Mexico for the next year on a mission trip.
