Steven L. Long, 70, of Washington, made his journey to heaven Friday at 6:04 a.m. at Daviess Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 21, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa, to Marion and Hazel (Birlew) Long. He attended East United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois. He retired in 2007 from the Indiana Department of Transportation after 33 years of service. He loved fishing, mushroom hunting and the outdoors.
He is survived by companion Rita Shake and her family; brother Robert (Nedra) Long of Plainville; two sisters, Susan (Steven) Doye of Moline, Illinois, and Beth Wittmer of Loogootee; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Tim Wittmer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Pastor Chris Byars officiating. Burial will follow at Sugarland Memory Gardens in Washington. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.edleemortuary.com
