Roger Schmitt Roger A. Schmitt, 70, of Washington, Indiana, passed away at 9:06 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.
Roger was born Feb. 23, 1948, in Ireland, Indiana, to Frank J. and Ruth A. (Lechner) Schmitt. He graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1966 and went on to serve our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Roger owned and operated Velpen Trucking and Disposal Company for 20 years.
His hobbies included fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, spending time outdoors, and going to the casino.
Roger is survived by his father, Frank Schmitt; children Justin Bryant of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michael Schmitt of Evansville, Chris Schmitt (Sarah) of Holland, Indiana, Jennifer Werner (Matt) of Ireland, and Alissa Haaff (Ryan) of Ireland; sister Mary Beth Vogler (Tom) of Ireland; brothers Norbert Schmitt (Phyllis) of Huntingburg, Indiana and Danny Schmitt (Sherry) of Velpen, Indiana; and 10 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Schmitt; sister Karen Sue Schmitt; and brother Mark Schmitt.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, at St. Mary's Community Center/Cafeteria in Ireland.
Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Roger Schmitt.
Arrangements are being handled by Boone Funeral Home East Chapel - A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Indiana.

Roger was a great guy who loved his children, grandchildren, and lima beans! Have many fond memories of him visiting Jen and I at IU. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

I delivered Roger’s mail for several years to his buisness on E. Van Trees. He always had a smile and something nice to say. Rest In Peace my friend.
