Robert's Story

Robert M. OBrian, 92, of Washington, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, at 2:40 a.m. at his home.

He was born August 21, 1924, in Montgomery, to James and Etta (Clements) OBrian. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He retired at 64 years of age from CSX Railroad. He was member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, the Brute Society, Washington Knights of Columbus, RSVP and the Washington American Legion. He also volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul for 29 years. He loved fishing, gardening and mowing.

He is survived by three sons, William David (Iva) OBrian of Washington, Stephen Michael (Marsha) OBrian of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Daniel Patrick (Sherri) OBrian of Washington; two daughters, Pamela Sue (Art) Furtney of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Glenna Faye (Gary) Myers of Washington; daughter-in-law, Rita OBrian of Mooresville; two brothers, Chris OBrian of Montgomery and Donald OBrian of Glendale; 11 grandchildren, Brandon OBrian, Christopher OBrian, Jennifer Furtney-Dorn, Bryan Smith, Scott Furtney, Joshua OBrian, Heather OBrian, Robert OBrian, Stephanie Wininger, Ashley Crane and Jarrett Myers; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

His wife, Wilma Faye (Palmer) OBrian, whom he married June 13, 1949, preceded him on August 28, 2002. He is also preceded in death by his son, James Joseph OBrian.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a rosary being held by the Knights of Columbus at 7:45 p.m. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Washington American Legion and the VFW.
