Richard Dale "Dick" Cottrell, 82, of Odon, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Washington, Indiana. He was born in Kokomo on Nov. 12, 1935, to Dale Franklin and Jane Clovis (Hufford) Cottrell. Dick married his loving wife, Janet Gay (Foglesong) Cottrell, on Oct. 28, 1979.
Dick served in the National Guard for nine years in Kokomo. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Odon, the Odon Lions Club and the White River Valley Antique Association. Dick retired in 1973 as a bank cashier and then worked at Walnut Hill Cemetery for 19 years before retiring in January 2015. He served on the Odon Town Board, Daviess County Economic Development and the volunteer fire department.
Survivors include one son, Michael Cottrell of Flora, Indiana; one daughter, Michelle (Daniel) Bott of Flora; one step-son, Kenneth "Greg" (Deidre) Bechtel of Odon; five stepdaughters, Cynthia Asdell of Washington, Linda (Ronald) Woodruff of Plainville, Sheila (Larry) Maryfield of Washington, Janet (Robert) Price of Colorado and Lisa Throop of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Cottrell; son William Dale Cottrell; daughter Catherine Cottrell; grandson Travis Kyle Woodruff; and son-in-law William David Asdell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon, with Bro. Richard Smith officiating. Dick will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Odon. Envelopes will be available at the church.
