Maggie Swartzentruber Maggie Swartzentruber, 89, of Odon, Indiana, passed away Nov. 28, 2018, in Washington, Indiana. Born Oct. 2, 1929, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Katie (Graber) Lengacher. She attended Liver's School in Loogootee, Indiana. On Feb. 19, 1949, she married Pete Swartzentruber; he preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 2006. She was a member of Providence Mennonite Church and enjoyed gardening. She worked as a nurses' aide at Ketcham Memorial Nursing Center in Odon for several years, retiring in 1987.
Maggie is survived by daughters, Pauline (Ron) Knepp, Sharon Bond and Marilyn (Marc) Smith and a daughter-in-law, Norene Swartzentruber; sons Willis (Cindy) Swartzentruber, David R. Swartzentruber (deceased) and Richard Swartzentruber; a sister, Martha Gingerich; a brother, Simon (Lydia) Lengacher; a sister-in-law, Fannie (Cleatus) Gingerich; 15 grandchildren, Todd Knepp, Ryan Knepp, Jess Swartzentruber, Tyson Swartzentruber, Jared Smith, Cain Bond, Kim Loyd, Ronda Trask, April Brown, Stephanie Stone, Kristen Wagler, Paige Meredith, Lane Bond, Ashley Sims and Rob Knepp. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Also 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Pete; a son, David R. Swartzentruber; four sisters, Mary Wagler , Katie Wagler, Rebecca Knepp and Fanny Wagler; three brothers, Joseph, Henry and Menno Lengacher; a son-in-law, Tony Bond; grandchildren Larry and Terry Knepp and a grandson-in-law, Gregory Loyd.
Per Maggie's request, a graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at Providence Mennonite Church Cemetery in Montgomery, with Kevin Swartzentruber officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Kindred Hospice Services or to the charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at

I can still hear her laugh. She always had a smile for you. She and my Mom (Dorothy Hollis) had a special bond.. Mom did Maggie's hair for many years.
She will be missed. We will carry her memory in our hearts.. until we meet again.

Maggie was a very special loving lady. Joe and I always enjoyed visiting with her. I am sorry for your loss. Prayers for all of you.

Maggie and I always had a good time when we got together. We told each other funny stories about the past. We dreamed about going on adventures. I never ever saw Maggie without a smile and a bear hug she always said” Well Margaret I never dreamt you’d be here. Will miss you!

I worked with Maggie at the nursing home. She was a great lady, fun to work with.
