Louis Moore Louis Horton Moore, 89, of Washington, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Nov. 4, 2018, at Hillside Manor. He was born Melvin Louis Horton, in Urbana, Illinois, Jan. 15, 1929, the son of Melvin V. and Iva Ruth (Claytor) Horton. His mother died when he was an infant, and his father was the victim of an automobile accident while he was still a toddler. After the deaths of his parents, Louis was adopted by his mother's elder sister and her husband, Agnes and Robert Moore. He was raised in Odon, Illinois, and was a graduate of Odon High School. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. After high school he became a telegraph operator for the Illinois Central Railroad. While working as a telegraph operator, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Greenville College and a master's degree in sociology from the University of St. Louis. He was then employed as a supervisor for the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services in Salem, Illinois, until his retirement in 1987. After retiring from the state of Illinois, he spent three years in Europe working as a social worker for the U.S. Department of Defense in Germany. After retiring from that position in 1990, he moved to Washington to be close to his sisters and their families. While living in Washington, Louis was active in the Daviess County Family YMCA and made many friends.
Louis is preceded in death by his biological parents, Melvin V. and Iva Ruth (Claytor) Horton; his adopted parents, Agnes and Robert Moore; his sister, Alice Jean Pridemore; and a half-brother, James Rieser.
He is survived by his sister, Janet Spillman of Washington; sister-in-law, Nannie Rieser of Tucson, Arizona; nieces, Mary Ruth Leonard of Washington, Rebecca Woodruff of Vincennes, Martha Seal of Evansville, and Valerie Lopez and Marjorie Bryan, both of Tucson, Arizona; nephews, Don (Bev) Spillman of Washington, Richard Spillman of Hebron, Kentucky, and Mike, Wayne, Greg and Darrell Rieser, all of Tucson, Arizona; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins, and special friends, Tom and Trina Hughey and their family.
According to his wishes, Louis' body will be cremated. A memorial service and celebration of Louis' life will be held at Christ United Methodist Church at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Carnegie library or the Daviess County YMCA. Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home is honored to assist the Moore family with arrangements.

I worked at Legends and thats where i met this wonderful man. My son and I went to visit him on multiple occasions. Someone keep me updated on times of the services. I'll eat some chocolate for you Louis. ♡
