Kenneth G. Garrett, 69, a resident of Washington Nursing Center for several years, passed away unexpectedly at Good Samaritan Hospital Friday after a short illness.
He was born July 2, 1947, in Martin County, the son of Rolla V. and Hildred (Waggoner) Garrett. He was formerly from Burns City, where he lived with his parents.
Kenny loved life and never met a stranger. He was a member of Burns City United Methodist Church. He was an avid Loogootee Lion basketball fan and attended most of the home games. Kenny had a special place in the tunnel at the gym, where he sat and greeted each player as they went on and came off the floor. He worked at Red Door Industries for 27 years and he looked forward to going to work every day.
Kenny is survived by sisters Marilyn H. Rollins of Odon, Norma L. Crane and Evelyn J. Holmes, both of Loogootee; a brother, Vaughn (wife Sue) Garrett of Washington; sister-in-law Sharon Garrett of Loogootee; and several nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Larry Garrett; brothers-in-law Woodrow Rollins, Don Holmes and Bryon Crane; a nephew, V.J. Garrett; and a niece, Melinda Rodimel.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home, Washington Chapel, with Bro. Richard Smith officiating. Burial will be in Burns City Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
