Joseph "Joe"'s Story
Joseph Edward "Joe" Klingensmith, 84, of Washington, passed away Tuesday.
Born Feb. 15, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Betty (Cassiday) Klingensmith. He was a 1950 graduate of Washington High School, and graduated from Cincinnati University. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Joseph served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married Barbara Jean Donaldson. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Donaldson Insurance Agency for 42 years, and was a residential real estate appraiser for 20 years. Joseph held several memberships including Charity Masonic Lodge No. 30 F&AM, Scottish Rite in Evansville, Hadi Shrine in Evansville, Daviess County Shrine Club, the American Legion, the Independent Insurance Agents Association, and the National Association of Realtors.
He is survived by two daughters, Martha (John) Newton and Debra Hamdan; grandchildren Joe (Jessica) Hamdan and Patti Jean Newton; a great-grandson, Peyton Joseph Hamdan; and a special companion, Joanna Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; a stepmother, Mildred Klingensmith; and a sister, Janet Smith.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Gill Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
