James L. Gunder, 54, of Washington, passed away Saturday at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center. He was born April 16, 1962, in Warsaw, Indiana, to Russell "Russ" and Beatrice "Bea" (Koogler) Gunder. He was a 1980 graduate of Washington High School. James was a member of ABATE and enjoyed riding motorcycles, racket ball and musician Stevie Ray Vaughan.
He is survived by his parents; wife Kathleen (Disch) Gunder of Richmond, Indiana, whom he married June 4, 1982; son Nathan (Cheyanne) Gunder of Washington; two daughters, Sarah Neikirk of Richmond, Indiana, and Kara (Nathan) Brooking of Pickens, South Carolina; brother Daniel Gunder of Terre Haute; four granddaughters, Jordan Smith, Marissa Neikirk, Mackenzie Neikirk and Kinsley Brooking; two nephews, Josh Gunder and Jeremy Gunder. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Pastor Charlie McCracken officiating. Burial will follow in New Veale Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Ed Lee Mortuary. Memorial donations may be made to ABATE of Indiana, P.O. Box 665, Bargersville, IN 46106.
