Helen Lucille Sims, 96, of Odon, peacefully went to heaven surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday at the Bridgepoint Health Campus in Vincennes. She was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Daviess County, to Frank B. and Hazel V. (Carr) Dowden. Helen became the wife of Robert A. Sims on Dec. 21, 1937.
Helen was a member of the Odon First Christian Church and the Ladies' Aide Group at Frady United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother dedicated to her home and family. Helen had also worked at the US Rubber Plant in Washington and then Sims Orchard in Raglesville.
Survivors include a son, John (Nancy) Sims of Odon; a daughter, Miranda "Randi" Sims of Vincennes; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Nancy) Dowden of Franklin; a sister, Judy (Dave) Rogers of Valparaiso; and a son-in-law, William Strange of Odon.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sims; her parents; stepmother Dorothy Dowden; son, Ronald J. Sims; daughter, Jenny Strange; granddaughter Debbie Sims; and sister Doris Hubbell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Odon First Christian Church, with great-grandson Ryan Sibray officiating. Helen will be laid to rest in the Raglesville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Raglesville Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Monday at the church.
