Donald L. Mattingly, 85, of Washington, passed away Feb. 22, 2018, at Washington Nursing Center.
He was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Washington, to Joseph and Alma (Alberti) Mattingly. He graduated from Washington Catholic in 1952. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War, and had retired from U.S. Railways. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Donald loved sports and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his sons, Donald Mattingly Jr. and Terry (Tammie) Mattingly, both of Washington; daughter Susan (Robert) Spalding of Washington; sister Shirley Bunte of Bruceville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma (Ketchem) Mattingly on April 17, 2002, whom he married, March 2, 1957; three sisters, Eleanor Sturgeon, Margorie Mattingly and Kathleen "Pat" Reckers; three brothers, Herald Mattingly, Charles "Gene" Mattingly and James "Rip" Mattingly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service being held at 3:30 p.m.
