Danny L. Merkel, 75, of Scotland, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at his residence. He was born April 22, 1944, in Odon, Indiana, to Luther and Anna (Haverstock) Merkel. He married his loving wife, Janet (Summerville) Merkel, on Sept. 11, 1966.
Danny was a member of the Scotland Historical Society, Scotland Cemetery board, Elmore Township Community Association, NRA and was a board member of Eastern Heights Utilities. He enjoyed watching IU basketball, hunting, fishing and auctions. Danny worked at Bierhaus and Sons Distribution Company and retired from the First National Bank of Odon as a branch manager.
Family left to cherish the memory of Danny includes his wife of 52 years, Janet Merkel; one son, Russell (Danielle) Merkel; two daughters, Denise (Steve Bilskie) Merkel and Janell Merkel; two grandchildren, Adam Merkel and Collin Merkel; one sister, Joan Richardson; nephews, nieces and cousins.
Danny is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Doyle Merkel; two sisters, Betty Fiscus and Lois Marie Merkel.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2019, at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon, with Rev. Bob Bruner and Rev. Fred Haywood officiating. Danny will be laid to rest in Scotland Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 4, and from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scotland Historical Society or the Scotland Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
