Alvie's Story

Alvie P. Porter, 87, of Odon, IN, went to his Heavenly Home on June 22, 2017 from Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born on May 13, 1930 in Martin Co, IN to Frances and Ruth (Harbison) Porter. He attended school in Martin County. ON January 24, 1951, he married the love of his life, the late Mary Porter. Alvie worked at McCords in Washington, IN for 27 years, and became a Truck Driver after that. He retired in 1994. He was of Christian Faith. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, and was an excellent checker player. Alvie will be greatly missed by his family and friends and the numerous lives he touched throughout his life.

Alvie is survived by his sons Dave Porter, Alan Porter, and Roger Porter; sisters Louise Roach, Luvina Hinchman, and Wanda Ryan; brothers Tommy Porter, Sylvester Porter, Ronald Porter, and Charles Porter; 5 grand children; 9 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary; daughter Leona Ryan; and brother Phillip Porter.

The funeral service for Alvie will take place on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11am at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut Street, Washington, IN 47501. Friends may call prior to the service from 10-11am.
